The film features Prashanth and Rinke Khanna in the lead roles with Sonu Sood, Raghuvaran, Rati Agnihotri and Vivek appearing in other pivotal roles.  The film was released on 14 December 2001 to average reviews. It is the first and remains the only time, that Harris Jayaraj composed the songs for a film starring Prashanth.

 The music went on to become a success. This is Harris Jayaraj's second movie and it became an internationally acclaimed soundtrack.Its multiple genre music efforts was considered as one of the best innovative music of all time. The lovely melodies Gulmohar Malare won everyone's heart upon the albums release and the solo effort Mudhar kanave went on becoming the best tunes of the year. The films success was highly fueled by Harris's musical effort.
